New Minister of Information and National Guidance Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi on plans for the film industry and the Media – reappoints Council Members

Government is planning to set up a body as a home to oversee the development of the film industry and the media the Minister of Information and National Guidance, Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, has said.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the third edition of the annual Uganda Film Festival in Kampala on Monday -25/6/2015, Maj. Gen. Muhwezi said government is aware about the potential value of the film industry, and efforts to develop it are priority.
?Film has immense potential to boost our economy globally into a multi-billion dollar industry,? he said, adding that government is prepared to facilitate the process of supporting this industry.
He emphasised that government values the role of film in sharing quality values that highlight our positive moral attributes and heritage.
The Minister of Information and National Guidance is also charged with appointment of the Media Council under the Press and Journalist Act CAP 105, to which he has reappoint eight members out of the twelve positions on the Council.
